This year’s choir will consist of 40 vocalists, 3 guitar players (electric, acoustic, and bass), 1 drummer, 1 percussionist, 1 pianist, 1 keyboard player, 1 sound technician, and 1 media technician (PowerPoint, etc.). You may audition for more than one position if you wish. If you love Jesus and have experience in any of these areas, submit your application today!
By completing the entire application process within 30 days (submitting application, references, portfolio if required, and completing audition/interview), you will receive a $25 discount off the Registration Fee!
In some cases, The Director of Exalt, Professor David Klob, may contact you to discuss your application.
If you have been a member of Exalt in the past, you may not be required to audition for Exalt 2010. However, Professor Dave does reserve the right to re-audition you if he chooses. All Exalt Alumni who are reapplying will need to complete a 500 word essay in place of an audition. This essay is to be a reflection of your spiritual journey over the past year. In your essay, you are to discuss how you have or have not been actively living out what you learned during your previous Exalt Tour(s). The purpose of the essay is to demonstrate how your walk with the Lord is growing and maturing. You are especially encouraged to talk about any positions of spiritual leadership you have had in the past year. You also still need to complete the online application form, and new Pastor's reference forms and Music Teacher's reference forms must be submitted. Submit your Alumni Essay.
Once you have submitted your application form, be sure to send the appropriate reference form to your Pastor and your Music Teacher to complete. The Pastor's
Reference should be completed by your pastor, youth pastor, minister of music or another spiritual leader in your life. If you are applying for the choir, the Music Teacher Reference (choir) should be completed by someone who has worked directly with you in vocal music, like a voice teacher or choir director (school or church). If you are applying for the band, the Music Teacher Reference (band) should be completed by someone who has worked directly with you for the instrument you are applying for, like a piano teacher or band director (school or church). If you have not had a music teacher, then ask the most musically qualified individual you know to complete the reference. The Tech Reference form should be filled out by someone who has worked with you or trained you in Sound Mixing/Recording or PowerPoint creation and operation and knows your capabilities in those areas. Each reference must be completed by a separate person and neither person should be a relative. Your references are due 2 weeks after we receive your application, so be sure to inform your Pastor and Music Teacher. Choir and band applicants must complete an audition. Tech team applicants must complete an interview and submit a portfolio. Auditions and interviews done in person at Bethany Bible College are preferred. Pastor Dave travels with ministry teams from Bethany Bible College during the school year and will hold auditions at local churches if it is requested. The BBC ministry team schedule is available online. To schedule your audition or interview, call (506) 432-4463 or email exalt@bbc.ca.
For your audition, you will need to prepare 2 songs in contrasting musical styles, for example, 1 traditional hymn and 1 contemporary worship song. Degree of difficultly of the songs is considered. Vocalists must provide their own accompaniment, whether live or recorded.
If a live audition is not possible for choir and band applicants, we will accept a video-taped audition, or an audition through Skype video-conferencing. Tech team applicants may complete a phone interview if a live audition is not possible. If you choose to do a video audition, you must do 2 songs as listed above. You will be assessed on your musical performance and your ability to communicate the message of the song with your face and body. For this reason, please make sure the video tape captures your entire body. Instrumentalists may include a third song that shows them playing with a band or worship team. Vocalists must demonstrate the extent of their vocal range. To do this, use the vowel sound “ah” to perform a scale that shows how low and how high you can sing. Vocalists must also demonstrate vocal independence. Select a hymn. If you are a soprano, sing the melody line of the hymn while someone else sings a harmony part. If you sing alto, tenor or bass, then sing your respective harmony part while someone else sings the melody. Feel free to use musical accompaniment for this exercise. Please include a copy of the hymn music with your tape.
If you are applying for the Tech Team, you must submit a portfolio at least one week before your interview. Please make sure that the portfolio is clearly marked with your name and contact information. Your portfolio should include at least one example of music that you have recorded, produced, or done the sound mixing for. This can be worship songs from a church service, a recording of a "garage band", or pretty much anything that you have worked on. You will also need to include an example of a PowerPoint or MediaShout slideshow that you have created for a song (including lyrics, backgrounds, etc). If you do any videography, photography, or digital photo editing, you can also include samples of video or photos if you would like. You may submit your portfolio by email to exalt@bbc.ca, or by mailing it to the College.
