Retreat for Married Students
In recent years, Bethany has had an increasing number of married students preparing for ministry. Out of a growing sense of responsibility to these young couples and a strong desire to help them prepare for the rigors of ministry, the College sponsored its first Marriage Enrichment Weekend this past month. Eighteen student couples participated in the two-day, one-night event, held at a hotel in Saint John, NB.
Focusing on strengthening the bonds of their marriages, the couples heard from alumnus Rev. Wayne (’04) and Threasa Doiron of Presque Isle Wesleyan Church (Maine). They spoke on the theme of cultivating a strong individual relationship with God as a vital key to strengthening one’s marriage. The Doirons also led in an interactive question and answer period, addressing a wide range of issues that married students face. The weekend closed with the couples enjoying a delicious banquet meal held at the First Wesleyan Church in Saint John.
Response to the Marriage Enrichment Weekend was overwhelmingly positive. Summarizing the weekend, one couple said it was “challenging, convicting, encouraging, and honest.” Bethany hopes that this is the first of many such weekends to come as we do our part to help build strong marriages for those who are called to ministry.
